Top-up programs offer greater access to university degrees for individuals with prior credentials. These programs provide accelerated pathways for completing full degrees, often bridging gaps for those who did not have access to traditional degree routes and enabling professionals to update their qualifications. Typically, top-up programs are found in applied fields such as business and nursing. Examples include shortened bachelor's degrees for those with lower-level diplomas, the "zhuanke to benke" scheme in China, and post-basic Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) programs. While more commonly offered at the undergraduate level, top-up programs can also be found at the graduate level. This session will explore the structure and functioning of top-up programs, covering topics such as entry requirements, advanced standing, and placement. The presenters will also compare these programs with their traditional degree counterparts. Attention will be given to top-up programs from different regions around the world-particularly post basic BSN programs-in order to develop an effective evaluation strategy and checklist for assessing these programs accurately.
