With the recovery of globalization in the post-COVID years and the acceleration of digital transformation, the realm of credential recognition is inevitably facing new challenges and demanding new skills. The session will delve into impactful credential fraud incidents and how digital transformation, including AI, can both support and pose challenges for credential evaluation. In 2024, the University of Hong Kong revealed a series of frauds that had been systematically fabricated by an illegal agent industry scattered globally, whilst unveiling current counterfeit means against traditional paper documents and emerging electronic ones. Additionally, a specific fraud case from admission and recognition in Sweden(VO) will be shared, highlighting the difficulties in detecting and combating forgeries when handling large numbers of applications. Meanwhile, The Swedish Council for Higher Education adapted policies to be better equipped to counter fraud in a transforming world, and Swedish higher education institutions are trying to address AI-related cheating. Digital transformation at the same time provides innovative measures through student data exchange and AI to avoid falsification in recognition processes.
