Addressing the Challenges in Assessing Credentials from Algeria and Libya

Session Information

Algeria and Libya share one of the longest borders in Africa, but this doesn't mean that they share the same education system. Algeria and Libya have been through several changes regarding their education sectors due to various factors. Libya has been mired in instability since the 2011 uprising against the country's long-time ruler, Muammar Gaddafi, while Algeria has been trending towards dropping French in Higher Education to distance itself from its colonial past. This session will introduce both countries, share updated charts of education systems, discuss teacher programs, introduce resources to determine if higher education institutions are accredited, and teach how to spot fake documents and verify the authenticity of credentials. In addition, this session will focus on the current changes and challenges in higher education during the unstable periods in Libya and the switch away from French in Algerian Higher Education. The session will also include case studies on how ENIC-NARIC Sweden is issuing a "background paper" for applicants lacking documentation from Libya.

The attendees will be provided with an overview of the current education systems, the latest charts of both countries, information about the accreditation status of Higher Education Institutions, and teacher programs, etc. In addition to that, we will update the audience with information about the current changes and challenges in higher education during the unstable periods in Libya and the switch away from French in Algerian Higher Education.
